MIAMI, May 25, 2017 –  NetMinder, the leading provider network comparison tool, powered by The Ignition Group, has completed its first 2017 update of dental, vision, medical, and behavioral health provider networks. More providers are participating in networks than in the previous update: the number of doctors increased 18%, the number of dentists increased 6.7%, and we saw an increase of 6.8% for other medical professionals, including nurses, therapists, and behavioral health providers. The number of eye care providers participating in networks decreased 8% from the previous dataset, bringing the number back to about the same number of providers in the spring of 2016. The new data is available to subscribers.

The first 2017 update includes data on:

  • 991,000 doctors
  • 222,000 dentists
  • 57,500 eye care professionals
  • 875,000 other medical professionals (e.g. nurses, therapists)

NetMinder’s comprehensive network comparison data is updated twice a year, which entails collecting provider information from more than 425 networks nationally, validating the data accuracy with a comprehensive audit process, standardizing the data, and matching provider records across networks with a proprietary multi-step recursive algorithm. This data is delivered to clients through easy-to-use, powerful reporting tools to help recruit more providers, close more deals, and retain more clients.

MIAMI, September 23, 2016 – Aaron Groffman, president of healthcare consulting company The Ignition Group, was a featured speaker at the National Association of Dental Plans CONVERGE 2016 conference again this year. More than 400 people attended the conference Sept. 12-15 in San Antonio, TX.

Aaron’s breakout session, "Dental & Vision Better Together," continued building on the exploration he began as part of the 2015 NADP Educational Webinar series. The group had a positive discussion about trends affecting dental and vision plans, the similarities and differences, and easy ways to leverage existing tools to expand dental and vision networks. Most dental companies have added vision plans to their product offerings already. Companies that compete in both markets, or just one, will find this information about network size, growth rates, and provider participation useful. Review the presentation here.

Aaron founded The Ignition Group in 2004. He is an industry veteran, educated at Wharton and the University of Miami, who ran marketing and competitive intelligence functions and built networks for divisions of Cigna and UnitedHealthGroup.

Groffman Discusses Dental Networks On and Off Healthcare Exchanges Since ACA

Posted by Susan Donegan on Fri, Jun 27, 2014 @ 05:19 PM

MIAMI, June 26, 2014 – Aaron Groffman, president of healthcare consulting company The Ignition Group, led a session in the National Association of Dental Plans 2014 Educational Webinar series. Aaron talked about the impact of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on dental provider networks offered to enrollees and discussed how dental networks on the exchanges compare to non-exchange dental networks. The session, presented on June 25, 2014, included an interactive question and answer session.

In order to meet the competitive pricing demands of the healthcare exchanges, many participating health plans have introduced new, narrower provider networks, with fewer high-cost providers and hospitals. During the webinar, Aaron explored this narrow network trend and investigated whether dental networks are following similar patterns. Attendees left with a better understanding of the logic behind narrow networks and how the dental industry is affected by this trend.

Aaron will be diving deeper into this topic as a speaker at NADP’s Converge Conference 2014 in September. The session was recorded and is available for purchase, on the NADP Knowledge Center. Click here to access.
